Kemp Surveys

Kemp Surveys is the division that conducts land or topographical surveys, measured building surveys and 3D modelling, as well as CAD drafting.

With some excellent experience behind them, having worked with an impressive list of blue chip clients, our surveyors work with local authorities, developers, architects, consulting engineers and private companies to deliver the best service possible.

Got a question or enquiry?

We carry out all our land and measured building surveys to RICS specifications, using the latest technology in total stations to ensure that work is of the highest quality. Our surveyors are directly employed, which means that we can react as quickly to your requirements as possible, whether your site is located in Cornwall, Devon, Bristol or anywhere else in the South West region.

Topographic Surveys

Here at Kemp we are dedicated to providing accurate and detailed topographical surveys tailored to meet your needs, as well as providing quality and accuracy as standard. This is why all our projects are supervised by a senior surveyor, and the RICS specification for land surveys forms the basis for all those conducted.

Over the years we have been commissioned by a wide range of clients including Cornwall Council (formerly Cornwall County Council), South West Water, various architects such as Stride Treglown and consulting engineers including H2OK and Hyder Consulting.

We are able to carry out topographical surveys ranging in size from back gardens to thousands of acres on sites anywhere in Cornwall, the South West region and in fact throughout the UK.

Our work has provided an essential, reliable basis for new sewage treatment works and pipelines, flood assessments and structural calculations, and many award winning architectural designs by the firms we have worked with in the past.

Measured Building Surveys

At Kemp we can produce measured building surveys, elevations and sections that are both fast and accurate.

Our team can apply the latest surveying techniques to produce plans and asset records that will in turn ensure any decisions made on future maintenance, refurbishment or redevelopment of a building and all related tendering processes are made based on the most current data available.

We can offer a service tailored to the requirements of each client and can survey a range of buildings, ranging from private residences through to hospitals, factories, schools and historic buildings.

Once a survey has been completed all site information is collected and stored using palm top computers with bespoke software, connected to disto laser measures and total stations. This means that collection of the data and site checking is efficient and improves both accuracy and delivery times. The data can then be presented in a variety of formats and media to suit individual needs.

CAD Drafting and Plotting

We offer a bespoke plotting and printing service using the latest technology, which saves clients both time and money if they are experiencing difficulties due to lack of plotting facilities or lack of time to plot themselves. We pride ourselves on delivering a fast, efficient and friendly service that is both reasonably priced and tailored to clients’ needs.

To order our plotting and printing service, simply email your files to office@kempengineering.co.uk, specifying how many copies you require and what size you need them to be. We will then print and post your drawings directly to your office or site. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit our office in Redruth with your drawings on a CD or USB stick, and we will plot while you wait.

Prices range from £3-£10 for a first plot, with paper copies ranging from £1.50-£6.

All prices are exclusive of VAT, postage and packing.

For large quantity discounts and transparent film plots please contact us.

Road Surveys

At Kemp we have over 20 years experience working in what is perhaps the most challenging environment for our surveyors, who are both experienced and trained to deal with the danger and noise levels associated with a live highway environment.

All sites are visited prior to work being undertaken and before surveyors start work they are briefed fully on the task.

Once the work has started, surveys are carried out using non-contact methods wherever possible, in order to minimize disruption to traffic and to ensure the safety of the survey team.

We have worked on the UK’s busiest motorways and trunk roads in Cornwall, throughout the South West conducting surveys and setting out works for consultants, contractors and local authorities.

In recent years we have carried out both topographical and utility surveys for the Highways Agency through management agent Enterprise Mouchel. This has included work on projects such as the A30 Bodmin-Indian Queens bypass, the M5 Exeter, the M26 in Kent and the A303 in Hampshire.

Our experience in setting out for road surfacing means that we are more than aware of the problems that poor level control (established by GPS or EDM) can cause during the construction phase.

The survey outputs for highway schemes are always 3D, with MX being the output of choice for highway engineers. 2D CAD compliments the MX data for presentation and plotting, and the scale factor is always set to 1 so that the ambiguities of scale present in the National Grid are negated.
